Summary

In short:

  • We collect the information needed to run an account, sync your study progress across your devices, process subscriptions, and improve the app.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-app advertising or tracking. The apps contain no advertising SDKs and do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
  • Your study content and progress are private to your account. Usage analytics are pseudonymous and never include the free text you type (for example, Ask Lumen questions or search terms).
  • You can use the app as a guest, reset your progress at any time, and request deletion of your account and data.

Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, a password (handled and stored by our authentication provider, never stored by us in plain text), and an optional display name. You may also use the app as an anonymous guest without creating an account.
  • Study content you create. Decks, question sets, care plans, and case studies you author, plus notes you add within the app.
  • Communications. If you contact us for support, we receive the information you include in your message.

Information created as you use the Service

  • Study and progress data. Quiz, case study, flashcard, and care-plan results; your spaced-repetition review schedule; streaks; readiness and mastery analytics; and Question of the Day activity. This data is stored on your device and, when you are signed in, synced to your private cloud profile so it follows you across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and the web.
  • Usage and product-interaction analytics. Pseudonymous events about how you use features — for example, sign-in, starting a quiz, answering a question, completing a case, reviewing flashcards, viewing the paywall, and screen views. These events carry flags, counts, scores, content identifiers, and timing only. They never include the text you type (we log, for instance, the length of an Ask Lumen prompt, not its content).
  • Diagnostics and crash data. Crash reports and performance and usage diagnostics that help us find and fix problems.
  • Subscription and purchase data. Your subscription tier and purchase history (for example, “Basic” or “Pro”), processed through our subscription provider and the Apple App Store. Apple processes your payment; we do not receive your full payment-card details.
  • Identifiers and device data. A pseudonymous user ID assigned to your account, app version, device and operating-system type, and similar technical data collected by our analytics and crash-reporting tools.

Marketing site

Our marketing site (lumennursing.com) uses Google tools to measure traffic and sign-up conversions. These set cookies in your browser. You can control cookies through your browser settings and opt out of Google’s advertising cookies via Google Ads Settings.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide the Service — authenticate you, save and sync your study progress, and run features such as case studies, flashcards, care plans, and analytics.
  • Process and manage subscriptions and entitlements.
  • Provide Ask Lumen tutoring (see the next section).
  • Maintain, secure, debug, and improve the Service, including diagnosing crashes and understanding which features are used.
  • Communicate with you about your account, support requests, and material changes to the Service.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Lumen is a study tool for nursing students. It is intended for educational use and does not provide medical advice or clinical decision-making for the care of real patients.

Ask Lumen and AI features

“Ask Lumen” provides context-aware tutoring about the case, flashcard, or question you are working on. When you ask a question, your prompt — together with the related study reference material from within the app — is sent to a third-party AI provider, DeepSeek, to generate a response. On Apple devices that support it, an on-device model may be used instead, and a local fallback is used when the cloud service is unavailable.

  • The text you type into Ask Lumen is processed to generate your answer. We do not include this free text in our usage analytics.
  • We ask you not to enter personal health information or other sensitive personal data, or any real patient information, into Ask Lumen.
  • The third-party AI provider processes your prompt under its own terms; we do not authorize it to use your prompts to train its models on our behalf.

Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on these legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to create your account, sync your progress, and provide subscriptions and features you request.
  • Legitimate interests — to secure, debug, and improve the Service through pseudonymous analytics and crash reporting, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent — where required, for example certain marketing-site cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only:

  • With service providers who process data on our behalf under contract (see below).
  • For legal reasons — to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights, safety, and property of Lumen, our users, or others.
  • In a business transfer — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
  • With your direction or consent — when you ask us to share information.

Service providers

We rely on the following providers to operate the Service:

Data retention

We keep account and study data for as long as your account is active. Pseudonymous analytics and crash data are retained according to our providers’ default retention windows. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify the personal data associated with it, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app or reset your progress.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information. Data in transit is encrypted using TLS, and access to your cloud profile is restricted by security rules so that only your authenticated account can read or write your own data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

  • Use without an account. You can study as a guest, in which case your progress stays on your device and is not synced to the cloud.
  • Access and correction. You can view and update your display name and account details in the app’s Settings.
  • Reset your progress. You can clear your review schedule and study history from Settings at any time.
  • Deletion. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting us at andrew@zerobound.app.
  • Portability and access requests. You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at andrew@zerobound.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

U.S. state privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other U.S. states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have the right to know, access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to opt out of its “sale” or “sharing” for targeted advertising. We do not sell or share your personal information for these purposes. To make a request, email andrew@zerobound.app. You may use an authorized agent, and you may appeal a decision by replying to our response.

International data transfers

We and our service providers operate primarily in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for nursing students and other adult learners. It is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice within the Service. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
